The Flip 7 win condition is to be the first player to reach 200 points, but the winner is only decided at the end of a round, never mid-round. Below you will find exactly how the 200-point goal works, what happens when several players cross it at once, how busting and the Flip 7 bonus change your path to victory, and a worked multi-round example of a player crossing 200 to win.
That one end-of-round detail is what trips up most groups in the final stretch, because the player who crosses 200 first is not guaranteed the win. Below we pin down exactly when the game ends, who wins when several players break 200 at once, and how busting and the Flip 7 bonus change your path to the finish.
The Flip 7 win condition: reach 200 points
Each round you bank points by collecting number cards (0-12), and those points add to your running total across rounds. The moment any player's total reaches 200 points or more, the game is ready to end. There is no race to a finish line during play and no sudden death mid-round. You simply keep playing rounds, adding each round's score to your total, until the 200-point threshold is crossed and the current round finishes.

Why the winner is checked at the end of a round, not mid-round
This is the rule players miss most often. Crossing 200 in the middle of a round does not stop play. The round always finishes first. Every other active player still gets to finish their turn, stay, bust, or even trigger a Flip 7 bonus that ends the round early. Only once the round is fully resolved do you compare totals and declare a winner.
That matters because a round that pushes you over 200 might also push an opponent even higher, and the highest total wins, not the player who reached 200 first.
What happens when multiple players cross 200 at once
When at least one player is at 200 or more at the end of a round, the player with the most points wins, period. It does not matter who crossed 200 first during the round. Add up every player's running total and the highest number takes the game.
- One player at 200+: that player wins.
- Several players at 200+: the single highest total wins.
- A true tie at the top (two or more players tied with the same score over 200): play continues with additional rounds until one player stands alone as the leader. A shared first place is never a draw in Flip 7.
How busting and Flip 7 affect reaching 200
Your path to 200 runs straight through the two things that decide every round: busting and the Flip 7 bonus.
- Busting scores 0 for the round. If you draw a second copy of a number you already hold, you bust and add nothing to your total that round, no matter how many points were sitting in front of you. A round near the finish line can stall completely if you push too far.
- Flip 7 adds 15 points and ends the round immediately. Collecting 7 unique number cards earns a flat +15 bonus and stops the round for everyone on the spot. Late in the game that single bonus can be the swing that carries your total past 200 in one round.
- Modifiers and action cards never bust you. Only duplicate number cards bust. The x2 card and the +2 through +10 bonuses only add to your score, which makes them safe fuel for a final push toward 200.

Custom target scores (10 to 500)
The official goal is 200 points, and that is the right number for a standard game. But not every group wants the same length. Our free score tracker lets you set any target from 10 to 500 points before you start, with 200 as the default.
- Lower targets (10-100): great for a fast game, a quick tiebreaker, or teaching new players.
- Higher targets (250-500): stretch the game into a longer session where the lead can change hands several times.
- Whatever number you pick, the end-of-round rule and the highest-total-wins rule work exactly the same way.
Worked multi-round example: crossing 200 to win
Setup: three players, standard 200-point target.
Running totals entering the final round:
Bob ......... 188
Carol ....... 176
Alice ....... 150
Final round plays out:
Alice: 7, 4, 11, then draws a second 7 -> BUST = 0
Bob: a single 10 with the x2 card, then Stays
10 x 2 = 20 for the round
Carol: 3 (used a Second Chance to survive a duplicate 3), Stays = 3
Add each round score to the running totals:
Bob: 188 + 20 = 208 (crosses 200)
Carol: 176 + 3 = 179
Alice: 150 + 0 = 150 (busted this round)
End-of-round check: Bob is at 208, the only player at 200+.
Highest total wins -> BOB WINS with 208.
Notice that the game did not end the instant Bob's score passed 200. Carol and Alice still finished the round first. Bob's 20-point round was only possible because the x2 modifier doubled his single 10, and because he chose to Stay and protect it instead of risking a bust so close to the finish.
A closer finish: highest total wins
Same table, a different final round (focus on the top two).
Running totals entering the round:
Bob ......... 195
Carol ....... 190
Final round:
Bob banks 12 points -> 195 + 12 = 207
Carol hits a Flip 7 (7 unique numbers summing to 42, +15 bonus)
42 + 15 = 57 for the round -> 190 + 57 = 247
Both players are over 200 at the end of the round.
Highest total wins -> CAROL WINS with 247, even though
Bob crossed 200 earlier in the round.
Crossing 200 first does not win the game. Once any player reaches 200, finish the round and award the win to the highest total. If the top two scores are exactly tied above 200, keep playing rounds until one player leads alone.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you win Flip 7?
You win by being the player with the most points once someone reaches 200 points or more at the end of a round. Points accumulate across rounds from the number cards you bank. The game never ends mid-round, so you always finish the current round before declaring a winner.
Does the game end the moment you reach 200 points?
No. Reaching 200 only triggers the end-of-game check, which happens after the current round finishes. Every other active player still completes their turn. Once the round is fully resolved, the player with the highest total wins.
What happens if two or more players go over 200 in the same round?
The player with the highest total wins, regardless of who crossed 200 first. If two or more players are exactly tied at the top with scores over 200, you play additional rounds until one player is the sole leader.
Can busting cost you the win?
Yes. Busting scores 0 for that round, so a bust on the round that would have pushed you over 200 adds nothing and can let an opponent finish ahead of you. Only duplicate number cards bust you; modifiers and action cards never do.
Can you change the 200-point target?
The official target is 200 points, but our free score tracker lets you set any custom target from 10 to 500 points before the game starts, with 200 as the default. The end-of-round and highest-total-wins rules apply at whatever target you choose.
Does the Flip 7 bonus help you reach 200?
Yes. Collecting 7 unique number cards adds a flat 15 points and ends the round immediately for everyone. Late in a game that bonus can carry your running total past 200 in a single round.
